The New Challenges

In 2012 Tracey and I embarked on a series of challenges to raise money for The Haemophilia Society. We had great fun doing it and both felt very fit. So, as we both were slogging up the Mound in the Edinburgh 10 mile run recently, we remarked on how unfit we both were compared to then!

And so Two Tackle Three was resurrected!

Two Tackle Three Take Two (AKA 2T3T2) will see us take on three new challenges each which are crazier and tougher than the first three (although Ventoux was quite tough). We will raise money for an Edinburgh Charity called The Yard. The Yard is a purpose built indoor and outdoor adventure playground for children and young people with disabilities.

Tracey and I have a few links with this amazing facility. One being it has close links with the Childhood Practice Team at Edinburgh College and the second being my late husband, Alistair was involved in providing the yard with their cut down working traffic light, through the BBC Children in Need project, The Big Build.

So Tracey's challenges are -

St Mary Loch Standard Distance Triathlon, Aberfeldy Half Ironman, Glencoe Half Marathon.

And Jane's are -

Windermere Half Marathon, The Moonwalk and the Glencoe Marathon.

We will also be taking part in a variety of other events in preparation for our big challenges.

Our blog will make a welcome return, so you can keep up with our training antics! So please keep up to date. We will let you know soon how you can sponsor us to raise a shed load of cash for The Yard.

Wild Wet and Windy!

Glad I didn't read Janes post this morning as I only talked myself into a run thinking that she would be doing the Park Run!
Since I was being taxi driver for Eilidh this morning to her friends house near Arthurs Seat I thought I'd give it another bash. So off I shuffled, up the hill, into a really strong head wind! Was buffetted all the way up the hill, and the only good thing about it was the free facial scub courtesy of rain disguising itself as hail stones, boy, they sting!! Met a veritable tidal wave at St Margarets Loch, then it felt like  running into a wind tunnel all the way along the top road. Despite my motivational problems ( my inner woose kept telling me just to walk, no one would know!) I managed it in about 42 mins, and dont tell Jane, but it didn't feel too bad, things only started to hurt along the final straight.
Have a good Christmas......will definately be having a day off tomorrow!!!

Janey's running ramblings

Didn't manage along to parkrun this morning because Rhona was really not well, has a runny nose and has lost her voice (hurrah!). So to make sure I kept my mileage up to ensure that I reach that 1000 mile target by the end of 2011 I went out for 4 miles. Wore my Santa hat and jingle bell bobble and made lots of people smile as I ran past. It was very wet and windy and surprisingly warm but a good run nonetheless. Last bit of run was through the woods and it was very muddy (yuk) had  a good laugh trying not to end up on my bahookie! :) Nice Christmas Eve run.

don't worry, be happy :)

Janey's running ramblings

First run this year in the dark! Not a big fan of running in the dark, but I do tend to run faster because of all the imagined baddies that are hiding behind the hedges of Penicuik!!  Didn't get out during the day but talked myself into a run at 6 o'clock. 3 miles in the bag. I have only 20 miles left to run in 2011 to reach my 1000 mile target. Whoop whoop :)

Janey's running ramblings

I went out for my daily saunter around Penicuik, up and down hills as per usual. Went via the library, then the post office (which for once was empty!) and then round the back of Penicuik and through the woods. Spoke to a squirrel and some sheep and then tottered home. To my delight came back and read Tracey's post - excellent - she is turning into a runner! Only got 7 more miles to do this week to stay on my target for 1000 miles in 2011. Rhona and I are going to run Parkrun on Christmas Eve dressed as Santa Claus. Talking of training plan's I am going to work out my plan starting in January. 3 miles run today.

don't worry, be happy :)

motivation matters!

Its all very well planning to train, but when it actually comes to the time when you need to go out in the cold and windy weather, the motivation can start to slip!
This was the case this morning when I went along the Braids thinking "sod it, I'll do 20 mins and that'll do" so off I shuffled, forced myself to do 5 laps up and down a wee hill, and ready to turn left, back to the car, but something strange happened,  I turned right and carried on with  my normal run, and ended up being out for 45 mins!

Janey's running ramblings

Tracey and I went for a nice run this morning through the Hermitage. We, were however both nick nacked, legs felt like lead for most of the run. So there was lots of time for a blether. Tracey kept stopping to pat dogs (just a ploy for a wee rest I feel) and we slithered around in the mud for a bit. Still got us out the door early on and gave Tracey the enthusiasm to get on with her marking! I went home and had a bath and a bit Christmas cake with a cup of tea. Bliss. 3 miles run.

Cycling was supposed to be the easy bit!

I was of the opinion that the cycling bit would be easy for me, as a three times survivor of the Edin- St Andrews cycle, you'd think it'd be no prob. Well, I decided to cycle from my house to Little France for a hospital app, its only a couple of miles, no significant hills (unlike challege no 1!!) but my legs were all wobbly when I got off...........may need to rethink my training plan (or maybe I should just make one?)
