The New Challenges

In 2012 Tracey and I embarked on a series of challenges to raise money for The Haemophilia Society. We had great fun doing it and both felt very fit. So, as we both were slogging up the Mound in the Edinburgh 10 mile run recently, we remarked on how unfit we both were compared to then!

And so Two Tackle Three was resurrected!

Two Tackle Three Take Two (AKA 2T3T2) will see us take on three new challenges each which are crazier and tougher than the first three (although Ventoux was quite tough). We will raise money for an Edinburgh Charity called The Yard. The Yard is a purpose built indoor and outdoor adventure playground for children and young people with disabilities.

Tracey and I have a few links with this amazing facility. One being it has close links with the Childhood Practice Team at Edinburgh College and the second being my late husband, Alistair was involved in providing the yard with their cut down working traffic light, through the BBC Children in Need project, The Big Build.

So Tracey's challenges are -

St Mary Loch Standard Distance Triathlon, Aberfeldy Half Ironman, Glencoe Half Marathon.

And Jane's are -

Windermere Half Marathon, The Moonwalk and the Glencoe Marathon.

We will also be taking part in a variety of other events in preparation for our big challenges.

Our blog will make a welcome return, so you can keep up with our training antics! So please keep up to date. We will let you know soon how you can sponsor us to raise a shed load of cash for The Yard.

Last run of 2011......so many more to come in 2012!!

I think Jane is being a  bit generous with her skipping round with nae bother comment!! and the fact I couldn't walk unaided across the road as she dropped me off should have demonstrated that nicely! Still, I am finding it less hard than I when I first ran way back in Oct , after which I couldn't breath deeply for days as my chest ached from breathing so hard!! Jane is so optimistic and encouraging its easy to go running with her.
Well, I have turned nearly profesional now with a super organised training plan of my own, the focus being on cycling from the New Year( after the GWR on Saturday ..aaargh!!) until Mont Ventoux in April, this will involve many hills, I hate hills!
Thanks to Allister for helping me work this out and suggesting some nasty loooking cycle routes in the  Moorfoot Hills, and to my daughter Eilidh for taking notes and generally laughing at my target times!
Here's to an active year!!!

Janey's running ramblings

Last run of 2011

Had a nice run around Arthur's Seat today. Tracey is amazing - from not running at all in October she can now skip around Arthur's Seat without any bother - go Tracey, you are an inspiration! All set for our race next weekend - quite excited now.  3 miles run.

Janey's running ramblings

                                                                  1001 miles in 2011

Who hoo!!!!!! Went out for 3 miles to get me to my target and I did it!!!!!!

I asked my wonderful teenage son if he was impressed with his old mum, managing to do that many training miles in one year - his reply? "well yes, but 2011 miles in 2011 would have been more impressive". No pleasing them really is there???

don't worry, be happy :)

Battling with the inner demons

I spent the morning having discussions with myself (sometimes out loud) about whether to go out for a run in the horrible icy rain which was beating down on my window whilst I snuggled up next to my newly fixed fire with cups of coffee. My inner demon was winning for a very long time, but as the first chink of sunshine of the day peeked out from the storm, I went for it!! managed to do 5 k in between showers, so feel very smug now!! See Jane....I came good in the end!

Janey's running ramblings

Five miles! That was a hard run, it was still really windy and going between rain and sleet. Not to mention the fact that Ms Joyce texted me as I was struggling up a really big hill, battling the wind and sleet. Her text was a total cop out text!!! Coffee indeed - fair weather runner - get out the door - Great Winter Run is only a week on Saturday!!!!!  Only got two miles left to hit that 1000 mile target. Biggest mileage I have ever done, ever, very impressed with myself :):):)

don't worry, be happy :)

Janey's running ramblings

Bloomin' eck, that was hard work and disappointingly was only 4 miles (the effort I had to put in should have at least made it 6 miles but no 4 miles was all it was). It was blowing a gale and on several occassions I was going backwards or even sideways rather than forward then to compound matters it started to rain (no let me change that to sleet - it is Penicuik after all). My face was frozen and my hands were roasting - go figure????  Still only got 7 more miles to hit my 1000 mile Target - nearly there! :)

don't worry, be happy :)

Holidays?

I decided to take a break from all this training and spent the last 2 days on the sofa drinking wine...nice!  But have now talked myself back into it,and I had to try out my super new Christmas training gear! The proper running gloves are so much better than my old fleecy ones which I just got too hot in. I also got some "X socks", which are so hi tech they came with a set of instructions!! But they seem to work as my feet weren't sore at all after my gentle 5 k along the Braids and back.  It was so busy with dog walkers, but I only stopped once for  cute little lab pup! The owner saw right through me saying "any excuse for a break eh?"
I have read Janes posts.......she just doesn't stop! Looks like I'll need to start taking this seriously and make a training plan which involves more than "go for a run if you can be bothered"!
Go Jane ...you can make the 1000!!!

Janey's boxing day ramblings

Went out for a 3 mile hill running session. Ran up and down Rullion Road three times (fast up and slow down). Was very puggled at the end of it. Still only got 11 miles left to do by Saturday to make it 1000 miles in 2011.

don't worry, be happy :)

Janey's Christmas ramblings

Went out for my traditional Christmas Day run. Blimey it was windy. Had to abandon my Santa Hat and put my jingly bell bobble round my wrist. Lots of people said Merry Christmas to me (with a hint of "she is bonkers" about them when they did it).  As I was running I did wonder if I had finally lost the plot whilst trying to keep my feet as the wind was whipping them away from me but then I thought you know I quite like the way I live my life, yes I may be a bit obsessive about my running from time to time but it has seen me through lots of life's trials and still continues to do so. So with a cheery christmas wave to everyone I passed I smiled happy in the knowledge that yes I may well just be a bit bonkers but that is fine by me! Merry Christmas to one and all :) 2 miles run.
